How Much Does Commercial Auto Insurance Cost in NJ?

“It depends” is the honest answer — but here’s exactly what it depends on, with real NJ ranges.

What drives the number

  • Vehicle type and weight — an F-150 rates differently than a 26′ box truck
  • Use — service vs. delivery vs. employee transport
  • Garaging ZIP — Newark is not Califon; theft and accident frequency vary by county
  • Driver records — one DUI moves the number meaningfully
  • Years in business — a new LLC pays more than a 12-year operation
  • Prior losses — a couple small claims are fine; three or four in three years changes the conversation

Realistic NJ ranges

For a single vehicle at a $1M combined single limit with a clean record:

  • Pickup or sedan, service/sales: $720–$1,400/yr
  • Service van (Transit, ProMaster, Sprinter): $1,100–$1,900/yr
  • Box truck under 26K GVW: $1,800–$3,400/yr
  • Local delivery, food/parts: $1,400–$2,800/yr

How to pay less without under-insuring

Higher physical-damage deductibles, clean MVRs, accurate radius filing, secured parking, and fleet rating once you hit five vehicles all lower the number. We cover the full playbook in our post on lowering your NJ premium.
