What we write, statewide

We place commercial auto for New Jersey businesses of every size — a single work truck, a fleet of service vans, delivery routes, company cars. The coverage runs from commercial auto liability and physical damage through hired and non-owned auto, medical payments and NJ PIP, garage liability and garagekeepers, up to a consolidated fleet policy once the vehicle count justifies one.

The operations behind those vehicles fall into a handful of patterns we write repeatedly: contractors, local delivery and route work, service businesses, auto service shops and garages, specialty trades, and distributors and wholesalers. Rating any of them correctly starts with where the vehicles garage and how far they actually travel — which is why this site has a page per county instead of one statewide page.

New Jersey is not one rating territory

North Jersey is the dense end of the state. Union County carries Elizabeth’s port and industrial base, with the Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway cutting straight through it. Hudson works out of Jersey City and Bayonne; Essex is anchored on Newark. Passaic holds three different environments inside one county line — Paterson’s industrial grid, the Clifton and Wayne suburbs, and the rural north around West Milford — strung along the Route 80, 46 and 23 corridors. Bergen adds the retail traffic of Routes 4 and 17. Carriers price the dense northern ZIPs above the state average, and which carrier you land with matters more here than anywhere else in New Jersey.

Central New Jersey is where the logistics volume sits. Middlesex is the convergence of the Turnpike, Route 1 and I-287, with Edison and Woodbridge distribution operations feeding all three. Mercer spans Trenton’s urban core and the Route 1 belt running toward Princeton. Hunterdon — our home county, and where the office is — and Somerset are the quieter middle, steady contractor and service work off I-78 and Route 31.

The shore counties rate on seasonality as much as density. Monmouth runs from the Route 9 corridor out to the beach towns. Ocean is centred on Toms River. Atlantic is a resort economy with hospitality service fleets, shuttles and livery behind it, and Cape May sits at the end of the peninsula. A seasonal operation should be filed as one, with radius and use documented against how the vehicles actually run, rather than rated year-round at peak.

South Jersey is freight and agriculture. Gloucester holds the 295/42/55 interchange, the Logan and Swedesboro warehouse build-out, and Paulsboro’s port and refinery traffic. Camden anchors the region across the I-295 and Route 70/73 corridors. Cumberland moves produce out of Vineland and Bridgeton on refrigerated units running up Route 55. Salem is farmland and heavy industry side by side, and the Delaware Memorial Bridge puts two other states inside the daily radius of most local fleets — which changes how a policy is filed, not just what it costs.
